Extra FAQs

Is Nimbus an Australian company?

Yes! We are Australian owned and operated and we make all our milks locally too.

Where are Nimbus oats sourced?

We’re proud to source our core ingredient – oats – fresh from local Australian farmers. Where we can, we’re also trying to source the rest of our ingredients locally. Our milks are then manufactured and packed in Sydney.

Are the oats and oat milk organic?

Although our oats are not certified organic, in Australia glyphosate and other nasties cannot be sprayed pre harvest, which is where the residues come from in many other countries. Australian oats are in demand internationally due to this regulation :)

Where are your soybeans sourced?

We looked long and hard to source soybeans from Australia and have been working with Soy Australia to explore options. Right now, no local processors can mill soybeans finely enough to meet our product quality standards - yet! But it's something we’re committed to making happen as we grow.

In the meantime, we use non-GMO soybeans from China, sourced from trusted partners. Each batch is independently lab-tested to confirm non-GMO status and that it contains NIL glyphosate.

Our goal is to lead the shift toward a cleaner, more planet-friendly plant milk, and that means starting now and improving as we grow!

Are the soybeans and soy milk organic?

Whilst not organic, we use non-GMO soybeans from China, sourced from trusted partners. Each batch is independently lab-tested to confirm non-GMO status and that it contains NIL glyphosate.

How do I make up the plant milks?

We recommend making your Nimbus milk in advance and using our Nimbus scoop and bottle to make consistent-tasting delicious plant milk as simply as possible.

Use one level scoop per 250ml serve (a heaped scoop for Soy Milk!), fill the bottle to the corresponding cloud mark for the number of serves you wish to prepare, pop the lid on and have fun shaking until it is completely dissolved. If any undissolved powder is left at the bottom of the bottle, this will dissipate over time as the powder continues to absorb water for the next few hours, so just give the bottle another shake later and it will be completely smooth. Your milk may separate between uses (this happens inside a carton too!), so just give it a quick shake before pouring.

You can also make the milk in any container with a lid, such as an empty jar. Just add 3 x 15ml tbsp powder to 225ml water, shake and voila - you'll have a 250ml serving of plant milk! You can also stir the powder into water, but it takes a bit more effort to get it perfectly smooth!

How do I measure the powder?

Our Nimbus scoop is the perfect accessory to measure the right amount of powder consistently. Use one level scoop per 250ml serve (heaped for soy milk!), or 4 scoops per litre.

If you don’t have the scoop, no problem! Use 3 x 15ml tablespoons per serve instead, as the scoop measures approx 45ml.

Can I use Nimbus in coffee and tea?

Absolutely! Just pour your made-up Nimbus milk straight into your favourite coffee or tea or warm and froth it first for that café-style feel.

It’s also a dream in chai, turmeric and matcha lattes.

Because we keep our ingredients clean and simple (no emulsifiers or fillers), some natural separation can happen in hot drinks if they sit for a while - just give it a quick stir and you’re good to go!

Pro tip: Let your milk rest after mixing. 5–10 minutes is great, but overnight in the fridge is even better. This gives the powder time to fully rehydrate, making it extra smooth and helping reduce separation in hot drinks. Heating before adding to hot drinks can also help avoid separation - like with all plant milks.

Does it froth?

Yes! All our milks froth — but our Soy Milk and Oat Barista are the frothiest of the bunch!

Our Soy Milk froths super easily thanks to its naturally higher protein content — it’s a dream in coffee, with sillky microfoam and no tweaking needed.

Oat-based milks, like our Classic Oat and Oat Barista, do behave a little differently from carton milk since they start as a powder and contain much less oil. But with a couple of small tweaks, you can get a beautifully creamy, café-style froth at home.

Top tips for frothing our oat powders:

  • Use slightly less water: Start with 1 scoop (25g) per 200ml instead of 250ml for extra creaminess and froth.
  • Choose the longest frothing cycle: Some frothers (like the Nespresso) have short cycles that don’t give our powder enough time to froth properly. Use the longest cycle available, or give it an extra round.
  • Let in a little extra air: Our Oat Barista loves a bit of extra air - whether you’re steaming or using a hand frother, try adjusting your technique to let more air in.
  • Let it rest (if you can!): While you can drink it straight away, letting your milk sit for 5–10 minutes (or overnight in the fridge) improves texture and frothing.

Will there be any lumps? How do I get rid of any lumps?

To keep your milk smooth, we recommend shaking it up in your Nimbus bottle, an empty jar, or any other enclosed container. If you prefer stirring, make sure there’s enough room for a vigorous stir.

The granules will continue to absorb water for a few hours, so don't worry about any undissolved powder as it will slowly dissipate into a perfectly smooth liquid. We find that for best results (and full flavour!), it's best to make it a bit in advance of use.

Pro tip: Making up a full litre? Add your 4 scoops first, then fill the bottle about three-quarters with water. Give it a solid shake, then top up to 1L and shake again. This little trick helps everything mix super smoothly — no lumps, just creamy goodness!

What water should I use? Filtered? Hot or cold?

Use the water you enjoy drinking normally – it’s really down to personal preference. If you prefer your milk cool, use cold or iced water (we love iced water!).

Why does it contain xanthan gum?

Xanthan gum is an all-natural pea-based fibre that helps to create a slightly creamier texture to our milks. While it sounds technical, the name comes from the bacteria (Xanthomonas campestris) used in fermenting the pea protein, creating a gooey and soluble fibre. It may also act as a prebiotic and encourage the growth of healthy bacteria in the gut. Studies have even shown that in large amounts it can slow down digestion and reduce blood sugar levels. We however only use the tiniest amount! It’s also entirely dairy-free & gluten-free.

What is the bottle made of? Why is the bottle made of plastic?

It is made of Tritan Renew, a 50% recycled-content no BPA and non BPS material.

Whilst it seems counter-intuitive to reducing waste, we think producing a high quality, long-life bottle is a good decision.

Not only is it producing less waste than single-use cartons in the long run, but our bottle is much more sustainable than the alternatives. The Nimbus bottle is made from Tritan Renew – a tough, BPA & BPS-free, food-safe material made from 50% recycled plastic.

Our first thought was to make the bottle of glass, but when we looked into it further, the facts tell a different story. Glass actually requires the highest energy usage to produce and uses so much more fuel to transport due to its weight, making its overall environmental impact 5+ times higher than plastic! Even recycled glass requires really high energy usage to produce :(

When compared to plastic with recycled content (like our bottle), we can save up to 90% of emissions compared to glass usage.

It is such a difficult process to decide which materials to use, but we are committed to using the lowest impact materials even if plastic has a bad reputation, as our whole company is built on reducing emissions and waste with no greenwashing.

Our reusable bottle is also very light and therefore easy to shake (glass was just too heavy for this!), fits perfectly inside the door of your refrigerator, and is dishwasher safe (although we recommend hand washing for best results).

How do I clean the bottle?

Your bottle might get a bit of residue on it from shaking up your milk and this is normal - it happens inside a carton too. The high protein content in the soy milk makes this particularly visible.

We recommend half filling your bottle with soapy water between uses, giving it a big shake and then cleaning it out with a bottle brush before rinsing.

Although the bottle is dishwasher safe, we see better results by rinsing the bottle straight after use, and this also protects the print on the bottle, which may rub off after many dishwasher cycles (depending on dishwasher and detergent).

The silicone seal in the lid is also removable if it needs a clean, but make sure the lid and seal are completely dry before re-inserting.

New seals are available to prolong the life of your bottle!

Are your milks suitable for children?

Whilst our milks contain nutrient-rich ingredients and added calcium, oat milk is not naturally high in protein. If your child relies on dairy as an important source of protein, oat milk should not be seen as a complete milk replacement. Our soy milk does contain 7.5g of protein per serve, so this is a great option for children! It is not a baby formula, and should not be used to replace this for children under one year of age.

Is the XL bag resealable? How should I store it?

The XL bags are all resealable! We recommend decanting what you need into a jar or tub for daily use, then sealing the bag tightly to limit air and moisture contact. Stored like that in a cool, dry place, it’ll stay fresh for 3-6 months depending on conditions.

What is our pouch/bag made from?

Currently, our pouch is made from a mono plastic with a vacuum spayed aluminium layer that is less that 1% of the total material.

Packaging is such a tricky question, but the most important action we can take to become circular is reducing the amount of packaging we use rather than relying on recycling, and with 90% less packaging than cartons, we are proud to say that 1000L of Nimbus packaging fits in a small shopping bag - it is such a reduction!

Although plastic gets a bad rap, it produces a fraction of the carbon emissions of glass, paper, and compostable bioplastics. End-of-life recycling may be more visible to us at home, but as recycling systems increase, this will improve too. But for now we have teamed up with ReSmart in Australia to recycle our pouches. Hope this explains our thinking behind packaging choice - always looking to improve as well 👍

What are your scoops made from?

Our Scoops are made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic (that would have otherwise have ended up in landfill!). Check ooy their cool story here: https://www.instagram.com/p/DMZ5C2DSAtm/

Do you use compostable/bioplastic packaging?

We thought long and hard about this and although it is an exciting future proposition, current systems to compost this type of packaging are few and far between. While it’s great to compost at home, this is not an option for everyone – our worms certainly don’t like bioplastics! To add to this, many councils don’t collect FOGO waste (food organics and garden organics). If compostable plastic does end up in landfill like other waste, it generates methane, a greenhouse gas far worse for the environment than carbon dioxide.

Compostable plastics also don’t offer the same protection that plastics do, leading to milk with a shorter shelf life and a potentially greater food waste problem.

Is your packaging recyclable?

Yes! Check out our recycling page for full details: https://www.drinknimbus.co/recycling

What materials do you ship in?

All our orders are shipped in 100% recycled cardboard boxes. These can then be recycled (again!) via your curb-side recycling.

We avoid adding promotional material or information cards into our shipments. Whilst these may be nice, they are usually thrown straight in the bin!

What are the subscription loyalty discounts and how do they work?

We think our loyal Nimbus drinkers deserve to benefit from the best discounts! That's why we have introduced a tiered subscription discount:

1st subscription order = 10% off RRP

2nd subscription order = 15% off RRP

3rd subscription order + = 20% off RRP & VIP Status for the life of the subscription

These discount tiers will be applied automatically, and you can check your loyalty discount in your account.

If you cancel your subscription the VIP status gets cancelled too, so do consider pausing instead of cancelling if you already have enough plant milk or are off on holidays!

Each new subscription starts at the first tier of 10% discount, so it is possible you could have various subscriptions at different tiers of discount.

Can I add a one-time product to my subscription?

Yes! You can add one-time products (excluding starter kits) to any subscription delivery.

To do this, head to the Nimbus website and click on ‘Account’ at the top right. From there, follow the prompts to sign up or log in to your account. Once you’re logged in and on your Dashboard, you should see your Active subscriptions. Click manage. Scroll down and you should see all the products you can add to your order. Which delivery service/couriers do you use?

We deliver using standard Australia Post delivery, to reduce the emissions created by more transport intensive courier routes. Orders are usually shipped from Sydney within 1-2 business days, and take between 1-8 business days to reach their destination in Australia, and possibly longer for New Zealand depending on AusPost's speed.

Orders shipped to Christmas Island, Cocos Islands, Lord Howe Island and Norfolk Island are automatically shipped by Express post, but unfortunately we cannot guarantee AusPost's fulfilment of this request, nor the arrival times to these areas. We regret that we cannot refund a delayed order until it is deemed lost in transit by Australia Post.

Do you offer Express shipping?

We ship all our orders via standard Australia Post parcel Post. Orders to Australian Islands, however, are sent via Express Post as standard to avoid the months-long boar trip!

How much does shipping cost?

To Australian metro areas, shipping is only $6.95 per order, free for orders over $59 (including subscription orders).

Shipping to regional areas and New Zealand will be calculated at checkout, and also includes a discount for orders over $59.

We encourage large orders, less frequently to lower emissions!

What areas count as metro for shipping?

Our metro shipping area cover the following areas in Australia: NSW, VIC (except country areas), QLD (except country areas), Adelaide, Perth, Hobart.

Shipping costs for all other areas are calculated at checkout based on your postcode, and also include a discounted rate for orders over $59.

We ship from Sydney.

Do you ship internationally?

We now ship to New Zealand! We ship from Sydney and unfortunately this comes at a cost. For orders over $59 this is $9.99, and for orders under $59 this is $14.99.

We hope to set up distribution to NZ stores soon!

We do not ship to other countries except NZ.

Do you accept returns?

Unfortunately we cannot accept any returns, as Nimbus is a food product that cannot be repackaged or resold. However, if your order was damaged, please email us so we can help resolve the issue as soon as possible.

Do you sell wholesale? Can I stock Nimbus in my store?

Yes! We work with Unique Health Products to distribute our products to Australian stores: https://www.uhp.com.au/brand/nimbus

Do you sell to bulk stores, wholefood stores, manufacturers, cafes or food service?

Yes! Our 5kg bags (50 Litres) are perfect for bulk stores, co-ops, manufacturers and food service. We now have a wholesale website with volume discounts on our 5kg bags and 500g pouches so you can easily order for your business :)

https://wholesale.drinknimbus.co/

Reach out to hello@drinknimbus.co for any questions about wholesale!

Can I give authority to leave, create a safe drop, or do I have to sign for my delivery?

All our orders require a signature on delivery as standard, but you can give Australia Post authority for a safe drop either for just your Nimbus order or for all your parcels.

To do this, click on your tracking link as soon as you receive it and choose “Safe Drop.” You’ll be taken to your MyPost account to confirm. The email on your order must match the email on your MyPost account for this to work.

If it’s not working, check your MyPost account settings, as they may not allow safe drops. You’ll need to update these first. There’s only a short window to request this, so we recommend doing it as soon as your tracking link arrives.

Can I change my address after placing an order?

Yes! Once you receive your tracking link, click on it and choose “Redirect my parcel.” This will take you to your MyPost account where you can add your new address. The email on your order must match the one on your MyPost account.

There’s only a short window to request this, so do it as soon as your tracking link arrives.

Are you milks Gluten Free? What allergens and traces are in your products?

Our Oat Milk and Barista Oat are labelled as CONTAINS GLUTEN. In Australia and NZ, the Food Standards Code says all products containing oats must carry a gluten allergen warning, so there’s no GF oat milk here.

In the UK, US and Europe, the rules are different and oats can be labelled GF. Oats may not actually contain gluten themselves, but they can come into contact with gluten-containing grains during growing or processing. They also contain avenin, a protein that some coeliacs react to. So they’re not safe for everyone, but if you usually tolerate oats in a gluten-free diet, our oat milk may be fine for you.

Our soy milk is a great gluten free option!

Our Soy Milk contains soy (no surprises there). Our oat and barista oat may contain traces of soy, hazelnut, cashew, pistachio, walnut, almond, pine nut, macadamia and pecan. This is because the milk powder or its ingredients are made in a facility that processes these. We do thorough allergen cleans and take great care, but we list these possible traces for anyone with very sensitive allergies.

Is your soy milk made with whole soybeans or soy protein isolate?

We use whole soybeans. While soy protein isolate can make soy milk more FODMAP-friendly, we prefer to use the least processed ingredients possible, which is why we go with whole soybeans.

Can I swap a product in my subscription and keep the loyalty discount? Can I change the quantity?

You can’t change this yourself in the account section as the system sees each new product as a new subscription unfortunately, but we can help manually.

The system treats every product and quantity as a separate subscription, so you can either start a new subscription or contact us at hello@drinknimbus.co and we can swap it for you.

I don’t like it — can I return it?

Taste is personal, and while we try to please as many people as possible, we know we won’t be everyone’s perfect match straight away. That’s why we have tips and tweaks to help you get the best out of Nimbus - many customers who weren’t convinced at first found these made all the difference!

  • Check your ratios: We recommend 25g powder per 250ml serve (20g for soy milk), but adjust to taste.
  • Let it rest: Once made up, let it sit in the fridge for at least 15 minutes, or preferably overnight for the best taste and texture.

If you’re still not sure, here are some other ways to use it so nothing goes to waste:

  • Add a scoop to smoothies/protein shakes for extra creaminess and nutrition (just add the powder direct!). https://www.instagram.com/p/Cykf0z2M2al/
  • Try it in oatmeal! You can even just add a scoop of the powder directly to the oats and water to cook up a really creamy porridge. https://www.instagram.com/p/CvVwaLesopN/
  • Add it to pancake mixes - this can also be done in powder  or liquid form
  • The quickest turmeric latte ever. https://www.instagram.com/p/DHI5uKFha5w/
  • A spicy chai latte. https://www.instagram.com/drink_nimbus/reel/C8UGeEpBYV8/
  • Dairy-free simple custard. https://www.instagram.com/p/DGrsUjTSREv/
  • Chia puddings. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cy-UY7wSacB/
  • Cooking savoury dishes. https://www.instagram.com/p/CzXprsjSYpY/
  • Cooking cream. https://www.instagram.com/p/C0SH-OPSWFN/
  • Works perfectly in baking
  • Iced drinks like our Oreo frappe. https://www.instagram.com/p/CxsDWK9oMnH/
  • Take it camping, hiking or boating - reducing weight in these activities is invaluable! https://www.instagram.com/drink_nimbus/reel/C6kTPWKSjDW/

We can’t refund or restock products as per our terms, but we hope these tips help you keep enjoying Nimbus and reducing waste!

I’m a UGC creator and want to work with/create content for/collaborate with Nimbus. Who should I contact?

Thanks for your interest! We currently work with an agency and work with raw content only. If you’re in Australia or New Zealand, send your portfolio and details to liamthomson.contact@gmail.com and we’ll see if it’s a fit. 💚

If you are interested in posting on your own page about Nimbus, please send over your details and prices to hello@drinknimbus.co and they will take a look! We do get a high volume of collaboration requests, so there may be a delay, but we do our best to check them all out! Thanks!

Will you make almond milk? Rice milk? Coconut milk? Macadamia milk?

We hope so. It’s just tricky to get it as smooth and tasty as our oat and soy milks, but we’re working on it. We are a small company so R&D takes time, but we hope to cover all bases in the future 💚

Do you have samples?

We don’t offer samples, but Nimbus is so versatile it’s unlikely to go to waste. Use it for coffee, cereal, smoothies, oats, baking, cooking, and more.

Check reviews here: https://junip.co/reviews/nimbus

We also have mini 3L pouches so you can try a smaller amount and see which flavour you like best: https://www.drinknimbus.co/products/mini-pouches

Is it the same as blending oats and water? Is it just oat flour?

Nope. Nimbus is smoother because we use an enzyme process like carton oat milks to remove sliminess, and we blend in creamy avocado oil. Each serve contains 30% of your daily calcium as well.

It’s fully soluble with no blending or straining, ready in seconds for anyone who wants the taste and texture of carton milk without the waste. 💚

Cartons are recyclable in my council area

They look like paper but are actually a paper/plastic/aluminium blend, which is extremely hard to separate into reusable materials. They’re sometimes downcycled into building materials, but never back into new cartons.

The latest figures show a recycling rate of 7% for all aseptic cartons, and when you take container deposit cartons out if this, the recycling rate is 2.7% in Australia. So even if your council area accepts them, you have got to be really luck for them to actually get recycled! Read the report here.

In NZ we recycle cartons via SaveBoard

Yes, and it’s a great initiative. A SaveBoard factory in Australia does this too, but here’s the catch — it can only process around 4,000MT of cartons each year, while over 40,000MT are used annually in Australia. Tetra Pak promotes this as if the problem is solved, but the capacity is just a fraction of the waste created. We don’t have the exact numbers for NZ, but it’s safe to say the challenge is similar.

What uses less packaging — the pouches or the XL bag?

Here’s the weight of packaging material per litre of oat milk for each option:

  • 1L Tetra Pak carton = 30g

  • 1L Nimbus in a 500g pouch = 3g

  • 1L Nimbus in a 5kg bag = 0.67g

The 5kg bag uses the least packaging of all, but even our 500g pouches have 90% less packaging than a Tetra Pak. They’re also made from a single polymer that’s recyclable via RecycleSmart or other providers, or by returning to us. So whichever you choose, you’re making a big improvement on cartons.

Are the XL bags recyclable?

Yes. Full details here: https://www.drinknimbus.co/recycling

Oat milk is inflammatory and full of sugar — it’s like sugar or starch water!

Here’s a fun fact - cow’s milk has almost five times the sugar of Nimbus Oat Milk and contains zero fibre. Oat milk, on the other hand, gives you fibre plus antioxidants, B vitamins, iron, zinc, magnesium, protein and more. Sounds pretty good to us. Nimbus oat milk contains just 1.1g of natural sugar per 100ml :)

Is the bottle recyclable?

Our bottle is made from Tritan Renew, a recycled material that would otherwise end up in landfill. Whether you can recycle it again depends on your local council’s capabilities, so check with them directly. We’ve designed it to last for years, and we sell replacement seals to keep it going even longer.

Why is Nimbus more expensive than Woolies, Aldi or cheaper brands?

If you buy in bulk on subscription, our loyalty discounts bring the price down to around $2.90 per litre for our bulk box, and $2.40 per litre for our XL bag. Because you only make what you need, you never waste a drop, which means it lasts longer.

We completely understand that the cost of living is tough right now, but if we tried to match the cheapest supermarket brands, we’d have to compromise on the things that make Nimbus… well, Nimbus. That means no high-quality Australian ingredients, no avo oil instead of industrial seed oils, no local Australian production, and no sustainable packaging with recycling programmes, and no small batches with total oversight. And that’s just not us.

Do you have an unsweetened soy milk? Can you make soy milk without added sugar?

Our soy milk is already very low in sugar - it actually has less sugar than calcium added, as you can tell from the ingredients list order. The small amount of coconut sugar helps lift the taste and mask any beany flavour. We’d love to make multiple versions, but we’re too small to do that right now.

Even with the pinch of coconut sugar, it still qualifies as a low-sugar product with about 1.5g sugar (natural and added combined) per 100ml.

Can I add the powder to tea or coffee directly?

Yes. You can spoon it straight in as a creamer. The amount depends on how white you like your tea or coffee. The oat milk is easiest to dissolve this way, while the soy milk needs a bit more stirring, so add it gradually. Whilst adding powder directly is a great solution whilst camping, hiking, travelling or at the office, for best results, we do recommend adding water and shaking it up first, or mixing and heating your milk in one step in a milk frother!

Try these videos for inspiration of adding the powder directly to tea and coffee:

Whilst hiking: https://www.instagram.com/drink_nimbus/reel/C6kTPWKSjDW/

How long is the shelf life?

If Nimbus powder is unopened and stored in a cool, dry place, it will last at least up until the best before date. The best before date will vary depending on when the batch was made, but should be at least 6 months away, usually much more. Once opened, keep it sealed, cool and moisture free between uses, and it will last a few months depending on conditions. This could mean storing it in the fridge in warmer climates.

Once shaken with water, store in the fridge and consume within 3-5 days. As natural separation may occur, give it a quick shake before your next drink. Make up only as much as you need to keep your milk lasting longer and to avoid any wastage – it only takes a moment to shake up a new batch!

Can I take it on a plane or overseas?

We’ve taken Nimbus on plenty of national and international flights with no issues, both in cabin and checked luggage. Many of our cabin crew customers love it because it’s not a gel or liquid, so it’s allowed onboard.

Most planes don’t stock plant milks, so this can be a game changer - sprinkle it into coffee or tea, scoop onto cereal and then stir in the water, or just mix with water when you arrive at your destination - no more dashes to find a decent plant milk as soon as you arrive. We’ve never had a problem, but if you’re unsure, check with your airline or the country you’re travelling to.

Are your oats and soy GMO free?

Yes. In Australia and New Zealand, any product containing genetically modified ingredients must state this clearly in the ingredients list or right next to it. If you don’t see that, it’s non-GMO.

My bottle leaks

This usually happens if the seal has fallen out or worn down. Replacing the seal generally fixes it.

Just add a new seal to your next order and use the code SEAL962 to make it free.

If you haven't got an order coming up soon, just get in touch with hello@drinknimbus.co and we will send you one in the post!

Do you have any stores in NZ?

Not yet, but we’re hoping to find a distributor soon. In the meantime, we ship to NZ — just select New Zealand at checkout. We offer reduced shipping on orders over $59.

Where is the Mocha?

Sadly, we’ve discontinued the Mocha flavour as it wasn’t selling well. We’re focusing on our core oat and soy flavours and hopefully bring out more flavours in the future. It was a tough call, but that’s the reality for a small business.

When I try and log in, it says “no customer exists under this email,” but I have a subscription

That just means your account hasn’t been activated yet. You might have missed the activation email when you first subscribed. Just click “Sign up” on our website, activate your account, and you’ll be able to manage your subscription.

Do you fortify with vitamin B12, vitamin D, or other vitamins and minerals?

We don’t fortify with vitamins at the moment, only calcium. Surveys showed most people preferred not to have small amounts of B12 or D added, since FSANZ limits mean we can’t add enough to replace supplements for those who need them. We may offer a fortified version in the future when we’re big enough to do multiple versions.

Does it contain seed oils?

No. Our oat milk uses avocado oil for creaminess, mouthfeel and froth. Our soy milk contains no added oil — its natural fat and protein give it all the richness it needs.

What water do you use in the production of your milks?

We use reverse osmosis water.

But is Nimbus actually more sustainable? Have you done a lifecycle assessment? Don't you use water in the production?

Nimbus is a very small company.  To do a full lifecycle assessment is out of our reach, as we rely on multiple other companies to carry out parts of the process (until we are able to have our own facility to manufacture), so there are a lot of parts of the puzzle.

Nimbus is not perfect, but if we waited until it was absolutely perfect, we would not have launched and we would not have saved over 500,000 cartons from landfill, which is where we are at today! We actually vacuum dry our milks as this uses much less energy than spray or freeze drying, plus we work from a slurry to have the smallest amount of drying to do. The other exciting part is that we are currently working with a foodtech company that has developed a technology to break the cell walls of grains, making them dissolvable straight away without the need for any water, so we hope in the future we will move to this methodology as a world first - it is our absolute passion to make this happen!

The main thing we do now is reduce waste dramatically. In fact, 1000L of Nimbus packaging fit in a small shopping bag - it is such a decrease in both landfill and materials/energy needed to produce this. Our founder actually started thinking about powdered oat milk after moving council area and looking at what the new area accepted in the recycling bin, and it was clear that any multi material packaging was not accepted. She then wondered why the neighbouring council area did accept them, as we clearly don't have separate recycling plants per council area... So she looked deeper. At the time, difficult-to-recycle items were being exported to Asia, but this was banned a few years ago. So where do they go now? One facility has been set up called SaveBoard. This is wonderful and turns cartons into building materials. Tetra Pak hails it as the solution to all their bad PR about recycling. So we contacted SaveBoard and they can take a max volume of 4000MT per year. But 40,000MT of Tetra PAks are placed on the Australian market every year (and growing!), so what happens to those? It turns out they can be sent to paper mills, but most reject them as they are too difficult to recycle and too costly. Even if they do recover the paper from them, the plastic and aluminium lose so much value along the way that the paper mills then have to pay to landfill these.

What is really frustrating, is that Tetra Pak say that their cartons are recyclable, as they technically are, and they even sponsor Planet Ark (Australia's biggest recycling info website), so obviously nothing bad will be said about them. They are also one of the biggest packaging companies in the world, with a big PR department. Up until a couple of years ago, they published their recycling stats, showing that globally 26% of cartons get recycled, with 134 Billion being landfilled. They now omit this from their yearly sustainability report, but it is in their 2021 report.

Is plant milk really wasted? Are your food waste stats that 1/3 of the world's food gets wasted correct in relation to plant milk?

The food waste stats are general stats for food waste - but it is a huge issue for plant milk. My family uses loads of plant milk, so it was definitely not on my radar that plant milk gets wasted. But we survey 600 plant milk drinkers before going ahead with Nimbus, and it was shocking to see that the 3 major concerns with plant milk as it was were:
1. Packaging waste
2. Cartons being 1L and having to tip away half the carton. The survey showed that most households have 1 person in them drinking plant milk, and 1L is too much.
3. The added ingredients

Now we have two types of customers - those who use a lot of plant milk and buy in bulk, and those who are a single household/1 person in the household drinking it, and they love Nimbus because they just make up the amount they need for their coffee each day, and don't waste any.

We see from our reviews and emails that this is a huge use case for Nimbus, and after talking to Noumi (who makes Milk Lab), I have found out their new 250ml cartons have been their most successful launch, as people want a small amount. They change $2.5 for a 250ml carton, and of course the waste is horrific, but it has been a commercial success.

We hope this long answer helps to give you some comfort around the kind of company Nimbus is and the passion that is behind it, and we are always here to answer more questions - we could go on about this topic all day :)

My subscription is not in my account and I am receiving orders

Oh no! There are a couple of common reasons why this can happen.

Most often, your subscription is linked to a different email than the one you’re logged in with. Some customers accidentally end up with two subscriptions under two separate emails — so it’s worth checking which email your order confirmation emails are going to.

If it’s an email you no longer have access to, no worries — just contact us at hello@drinknimbus.co and we can update it for you.

Very occasionally, browser cookies can stop your subscription from showing in your account, even when you're logged in correctly. A quick refresh usually fixes it, or try clearing your cookies if that doesn't work.

Let us know if you’re still having trouble and we’ll help from this side too!

Do you have any stockists near me?

Check out our stockist locator here, but we do recommend to call ahead to make sure Nimbus is in stock! https://wholesale.drinknimbus.co/pages/stockists

If Nimbus isn't in a store near you, your local health food store will usually order Nimbus in for you - just tell them our distributor is Unique Health Products :)

Why do you talk about seed oils, additives and preservatives in such a negative way in some of your ads?

Thanks so much for raising this – it’s something we’ve wrestled with ourselves.

We’re a small Aussie startup trying to make a dent in the huge mountain of packaging waste created by plant milks. Advertising is one of the few ways we can get the word out and keep going – but it’s a tricky space to navigate.

This particular ad wasn’t one we initially felt comfortable with, but after lots of testing, it’s the one that resonated most with customers. In fact, it’s been our most effective ad ever. Without it, we genuinely might not still be here – and that’s a tough thing to admit, but it’s the reality of small-scale food production right now.

We chose avocado oil in our Oat Milk as a point of difference – not because seed oils are bad (they’re absolutely fine for most people), but because many of our customers are actively looking for options without them. Even our health food stockists say it's a key reason they carry us.

We do feel conflicted, but if this ad helps us scale, reduce emissions, and keep cartons out of landfill, it supports our bigger mission.

And if you’ve seen our other ads, you’ll know this tone isn’t our usual vibe – but sometimes, one just takes off. Hopefully this gives a bit more context, and we’re always open to feedback 💚

Do you know what volume the powder takes up? I want to buy the XL bag and get a jar large enough to fit it.

Good question! I just worked it out and a 500g/5L oat milk pouch takes up 0.8L, so the 5kg will need 8L.

The soy milk has a higher bulk density than the oat milk powder, so I would estimate a 400g/5L pouch would take up about 0.9L-1L of space, so the 3.2kg/40L XL bag will take up about 8L of space as well.

It might need to be decanted in part, sealed tightly, and then decanted again as this is quite a large volume!

My order has arrived and the box is all broken and the pouch is damaged. What should I do?

Oh no! Oh no that is a shame - looks like it got beaten up by AusPost :(

Please get in contact with hello@drinknimbus.co with some photos and they will help you out here!

Thanks for getting in touch as we learn so much through customer feedback and can then improve! It really helps!!

Why do you waste so many cartons in your ads and PR? That is a huge pile of Tetra Paks.

We would never waste cartons! We collected the used cartons from a local coffee shop - that is how many a city coffee shop throws out in a day :(

My made-up milk goes off after a short time eg a day in the fridge? Is there something wrong?

If it tastes sour after a day of making it, this is nearly always due to the fact that there is some issue with the bottle and it needs a really good clean. We have had this happen in a couple of cases, and this always fixes it. It may be due to some tiny bacteria in the bottle, but I'm no scientist!

Will the soy milk separate in hot drinks? What can I do to stop this?

Because we use only a few natural ingredients in our soy milk, some separation in hot drinks can happen — especially when the milk is freshly mixed. Here are a few ways to minimise that:

  • Let it rest overnight for the particles to fully rehydrate

  • Froth or whisk and heat the milk before adding it to hot drinks.

  • Give it a quick mix in a blender!

Hopefully those tweaks make your cup much more enjoyable. If left to sit for a while it may separate in the hot drink like many plant milks do - but nothing a quick stir won't fix!

I wanted to show a few videos of how well our soy milks heats and froths for hot drinks, and hopefully these will inspire you to tweak the routine and keep saving waste with us :)

Is your soy milk low fat or lite?

Our Nimbus Soy Milk Powder isn’t fat‑free, but it’s still naturally low in fat and could be labeled "low fat" as per the Australian food labelling guidelines. A 250 mL serve contains about 3.5 g of total fat (only 1.4g per 100ml)—and importantly, there are no added oils in the ingredients. It is also low sugar!

Plus it's a protein-rich option, delivering 7.5 g of protein per serve, and supplies 30% of your daily calcium—so you’re getting both nutrition and simplicity in every glass.

Is your oat milk low fat or lite?

Yes! All our milks are low fat and low sugar, as per the Australian labelling guidelines. Our oat milk has  approx 1g of fat and 1g of natural sugars per 100ml made up.

There are tiny brown/dark specks in my soy milk powder. What is this?

This is just the flecks of coconut sugar that are darker than the soybeans - totally normal :) Refined sugar would be hidden, but coconut sugar is very dark!

Why can't you pack it in paper bags?

Paper sounds great, but it doesn’t keep powder fresh — it would go clumpy in under a week. We use recycled-content mono plastic because it’s protective, low-impact, and actually recyclable via @recyclesmartaus. And because we use so little of it, 1000L of Nimbus packaging fits in one shopping bag. Huge win for waste reduction!

I'm struggling with the taste of the soy milk as it is more beany than I am used to and I can only use it in smoothies. What can I do?

If you are used to a more sweetened version like Bonsoy or Vitasoy, add a little extra sugar when you mix it up. This masks the more natural beany flavour of soy, and may give you the taste profile you are looking for. Check out our Insta for some latte inspo (matcha and golden lattes are crowd faves!) ✨ Also try mixing, frothing and heating it in one step in a milk frother - lots of Nimbus drinkers love the creamy, silky froth this gives and it brings out the best in both taste and texture.

I use 1 litre of oat milk a week. Would the XL 50L oat milk / 40L soy milk be good for me?

The XL bag will stay fresh for 3 or more months depending on the climate and humidity. We would recommend it for households drinking 4 litres or more a week. If you use less than this, we would highly recommend our bulk pack as you receive 6 x 5L pouches, and as these are all sealed, they will last till the best before date so you will have a lot more time to use them :)

How many ml fit in the scoop/what size is the scoop?

The scoop is approx 45ml. We recommend 1 scoop (25g) of oat powder per 250ml serve, and one heaped scoop (20g) of soy powder per 250ml serve of Nimbus.

Why do you use a US/American tbsp spoon measure of 15ml instead of the Australian tbsp measurement of 20ml?

We specify the size of the tbsp in ml as it is very confusing that tbsp measurements differ across the world! Although the Aussie tbsp is 20ml, it seems so many available on the market are 15ml, so we thought it easiest to specify what size of tbsp we mean. Our Nimbus scoop is 45ml, so 3x15ml tbsp works best for this, or probably 2x heaped 20ml tbsp. But it is most accurate to measure out 25g/250ml for oat, and 20g/250ml for soy!

The oat milk / oat barista doesn't froth. Any tips?

Our Oat Milk and Barista Oat can behave a little differently from carton milks, but we have some tips to help! Our top tips here are to let it rest once made up - because it's a powder, the longer it is left, the more it rehydrates so the full taste, texture and functionality develops over time.

If you are struggling with the froth, try adding a bit less water as this really helps you to find out what works best for you and your frother - I like 1 scoop per 200ml of water for coffee. It does need a bit extra aeration, so a milk frother with a longer cycle helps too!

We do have a reel showing it in action here: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DHg92yMyqGT — it might help to see the froth tricks in action.

I really want the soy milk to be my go-to milk, but I'm struggling with the taste. What can i do?

For the soy milk, some customers who are used to a version like Bonsoy or Vitasoy like to add in a bit of extra sugar before shaking it up. Our soy milk is very low in sugar and still has a real soy beany flavour, and the more sweetener is added, the more this beany taste is masked. So this might be worth a go. The soy milk has been received so well, so we hope you can find a way to make it suit your taste too!

We’d love for Nimbus to be your go-to — both for taste and for all the waste you save — so if you're up for it, we're always here to help tweak the mix and get the most out of it. It can be really worth making these little changes to save so much waste!

I am entering the code I received for a free scoop with my purchase, but it says the code is not valid. What can I do?

This usually means that you have not added the scoop to your cart before applying the code. Try adding the scoop to your cart before applying the code, and this should fix the issue!

Absolutely none.

What is your contact email? How do I get in contact?

hello@drinknimbus.co

Do you have a phone number?

No, we answer all our emails as quick as we can though!

It isn't really milk - why do you call it that?

Is it really that easy to confuse with cow's milk that we need a warning label? 👀
We reckon our community’s a bit sharper than that.

What abut hot dogs? Peanut butter?

Imagine being more mad about the word “milk” than about dairy emissions and animal cruelty 😅

Wouldn't homemade be the most eco friendly?

Homemade is great, and we'd love to make our own oat milk, our own nut butter, our own bread, our own jam…but if you don't have time, Nimbus is a great solution :) It also has a smoother taste than homemade as our oats are broken down with enzymes just like carton milks to avoid any sliminess, and 30% of your daily calcium per serve is a bonus!
